I LOVE photography. But I did not start out intending to be a professional photographer. I have a BA and an MS in Educational Administration, and I spent my twenties working for a local college in the Career Resources Office. Then, I was home with my son and (after a few more years) my daughter. As they got older, photography started to turn from a hobby into an obsession. A friend asked me to photograph her wedding, and I was thrilled – but refused to commit until I was sure I had all of the training necessary to do the job at the level I knew I wanted it to be at. So, in 2010 I began studying photography in a more official capacity. I took any class I could find, and aligned myself with a lovely, retired professional photographer of 30 years. He brought me to the point where I felt confident enough to shoot her wedding – and I was thrilled with the results.
I continued my training and courses, while figuring out how to set up a website…tentatively opening the door to my new life. The word-of-mouth response to Jill Richardson Photography was overwhelming – and so lovely! After a relatively short time in the professional arena, I was honored to be asked by HERLIFE NY MAGAZINE to contract with them for their cover and fashion shoots. What an experience THAT has been! Magazine work is exhilarating and stressful, but I love it.
I’ve prefer word-of-mouth advertising, but I do have an ad in HERLIFE NY MAGAZINE every month. I’m also a member of WPPI (Wedding and Portrait Photographers International), which contains a link to my site. But, no matter which route brought you here – I’m glad you’re here! I encourage you to look around and please contact me if you have any questions!
I hope to work with you soon –
Ellen has a BA in Communication and an MS in Art Education with a concentration in Photography. She was a full time teacher, and now spends her time with her two adorable children, and teaching part time.
Because she wanted to help her good friend turn her new business into a success, and to keep her artistic skills sharp, she agreed to accompany Jill at weddings and events in 2011. They so enjoyed working together – the meshing of professional photography, and working as a team was seamless, it hardly seemed like work! So, Ellen agreed to officially become an “assistant” to Jill at any large booking – and it’s been a fabulous partnership!
Over the years, Ellen has become very comfortable with the camera again, and is now a second shooter at all events. Her eye is so spectacular – you will find she has shot some of your favorite images from the day!

I just love her face. I love her through the serious and I love her through the crazy and I love her through the hilarious. But mostly, I love her with her family. And I love that I get to photograph them together, year after year. xoxox Boo. ... See MoreSee Less
